Since launching in 2006, Tyler Perry Studios has created more than a dozen scripted series and nearly 25 movies. Its first series, House of Payne, drew a then-cable sitcom record 5.9 million viewers in its June 2007 premiere on TBS and raised eyebrows when the network picked up a then-unprecedented 90-episode order for the series after an initial 10-episode run. Perry in 2019 would extend beyond linear television when he partnered with BET in 2019 to create original content for BET Plus.

Perry serves as owner, creator, executive producer and director of both series, which come to TBS from Debmar-Mercury.MEET THE BROWNS, which launches its new season Wednesday, May 27, with back to back episodes airing at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT), stars David Mann (Madea Goes to Jail) as the fun-loving, wardrobe-challenged Downtown Leroy Brown, who is trying to fulfill his father's dying wish by opening a retirement home called Brown Meadows. Helping him out are his daughter, Cora (Tamela Mann Meet the Browns, Diary of a Mad Black Woman); his nephew, Will (Lamman Rucker Why Did I Get Married?), a doctor; Will's wife, Sasha (Denise Boutte Days of Our Lives), a nurse; and Jess Hernandez (Antonio Jaramillo CSI: Miami), a maintenance engineer studying to be a lawyer. Also trying to lend a hand is London Sheraton (Arielle Vandenberg Epic Movie), a not-too-bright celebrity/heiress who has to complete community service at Brown Meadows for a DUI conviction.Despite all the assistance, Brown soon finds himself in over his head with the arrival of three troublesome senior citizens: Col. Cleophus Jackson (Tony Vaughn Stomp the Yard), a stubborn ex-Marine, and Ms. Edna (Juanita Jennings Lincoln Heights), who is a little too in touch with her sexuality and Miss Daisy (K Callan Til Death), an aging B-movie actress. also winds up at the home by mistake. Soon, Brown Meadows is buzzing with the interactions between the residents and staff, with Brown himself at the center of the whirlwind. MEET THE BROWNS premiered on TBS Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, with 4.2 million viewers. It quickly took position as ad-supported cable's #1 comedy among key adult demos and television's #1 scripted series among African-American viewers, households and key adults.
